Board Reviews Bond Plans to Support Facility Improvements
The Board discussed plans to fund ongoing capital and life safety projects across District 205. Earlier this fall, the Board approved a notice of intent to issue up to $8.5 million in Working Cash Bonds to support regular capital projects and maintain the overall fund balance. The District also sought up to $15 million to complete state-approved life safety work identified in the 10-year survey. Following state review, the total estimated cost of life safety work was adjusted to $21.2 million, including architectural, engineering, and contingency fees. The proposed bond issuances are structured to maintain a flat debt service tax rate over the next decade while supporting necessary facility updates and maintenance.

Authorization to Secure Natural Gas Fixed Price
The Board reviewed options for stabilizing future natural gas costs following the expiration of the District’s fixed-rate agreement with Constellation New Energy in June 2025. With rising energy demand and market volatility driving up prices, the District partnered with Nania Energy Advisors to explore cost management strategies. Based on proposals received, the Board authorized the Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations to finalize a contract locking in a fixed natural gas supply rate with Constellation for up to 48 months, providing long-term budget stability and cost protection.

York High School 9th Grade English
Last year, the York High School leadership team came together for a series of analysis, reflection, and learning focused on identifying opportunities for improvement needed to elevate instructional programming, practices, and student outcomes in 9th grade English.
This year, the learning has expanded to include all 9th grade English teachers, coaches, and administrators. This team has focused specifically on evaluating the current English curriculum and York 9th graders’ experiences with complex texts and tasks that meet grade level standards.
As part of this process, the English 9 team utilized the Instructional Materials Evaluation Tool (IMET) to evaluate current materials. This evaluation process included an analysis of the 9th grade English anchor texts and their appropriate level of complexity as defined by the standards, and according to the quantitative and qualitative demands of the grade level. Additionally, anchor texts and supplemental texts were evaluated to ensure that they are worthy of especially careful reading, contain rich academic language, and include a mix of informational texts and literature.
Based on this evaluation, the York 9th grade English team has identified an opportunity to increase the complexity of anchor texts and tasks for 2nd semester. To support this, the 9th grade English teachers unanimously agreed to utilize materials and resources from the Odell High School Literacy Program. This experience of executing an Odell unit will allow for the English 9 team to provide all students with high quality, complex texts and tasks while also encouraging teachers to reflect on future steps needed to improve instructional programming and practices. As you approved last year, Odell is also currently utilized in our 8th grade REACH English programming.
