Hawthorne AM Drop-off Procedures
The following procedures have been updated to address the traffic and safety issues the communities of Hawthorne, Immaculate Conception and Elmhurst are experiencing. These procedures should be taken seriously, as your child's safety is our absolute first priority.
Please take the time to read the procedures below and communicate these procedures to ALL family members and childcare providers that drop.
When: Drop off is from 8:00 am - 8:12 am. Door 1 will close at 8:12 am. Students are to be seated at their desks by 8:15 am.
Where (see map): The drop-off line BEGINS at the intersection of Cottage Hill Ave and Church St. The line continues moving north on Cottage Hill and turns right on Arthur St. Stay to the right on Cottage Hill Ave. DO NOT PASS CARS ON THE LEFT.
The official drop-off area goes along the north side of Arthur St from Cottage Hill Ave to the entrance to the small staff lot adjacent to the playground. This is the ONLY area you may let your children out of your car.Pulling In: When turning right at Arthur St, ONLY turn into the northern most lane on Arthur St (Hawthorne side). STAY BEHIND THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU. DO NOT PASS CARS THAT ARE DROPPING OFF CHILDREN.
Obey the crossing guard who will be directing children across the street.
Keep pulling up until the car in front of you stops OR you reach the entrance to the small staff parking lot by the playground.
Do NOT use the center lane on Arthur (through traffic lane) to cut into the drop-off line closer to the school doors. This lane is for through traffic only. Wait in the moving drop-off line.
Do NOT stop or park in the southern most lane on Arthur (Immaculate Conception side) to drop children off.
4. Dropping Off: Put your car in park before you let your children out efficiently.
Children are NOT allowed to exit on the passenger (street) side of the car.
Parents may NOT get out of the car while in drop-off line.
Do NOT hold up the line to watch your child walk into school.
5. Leaving: When leaving the drop off line, WAIT and FOLLOW THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU. DO NOT PASS CARS THAT ARE DROPPING OFF CHILDREN.
• Do NOT pull out into the center lane on Arthur St until you reach the entrance to the small staff lot adjacent to the playground.
6. Other Notes: State law mandates a max speed of 20 MPH and NO cell phone use in school zones.
You can help us out by reducing the number of cars in the drop off line in the following ways:
walk or bike to school
take the bus if it is a good option for your family
park in a nearby lot and walk your child over to school
carpool with friends or neighbors
Most importantly, we have nearly 600 children arriving between 8:00 and 8:12 am every morning. Please be kind and patient with one another. Thank you for helping to make our school campus safe for everyone.
