Lunch Procedures 2018-2019
Children in grades one through five are asked their lunch plans at the beginning of each school day. Please ensure your child is aware of his or her plan each day. We want to minimize missed class time because of calls and questions. First, second and third graders eat from 11:25 AM to 11:55 AM. They have recess from 11:55 AM to 12:25 AM. Fourth and fifth graders have recess from 11:25 AM to 11:55 AM and eat from 11:55 AM to 12:25 PM. Children are sent outside for recess except during extreme weather. They should be dressed for the weather. We require a doctor’s note to keep a child inside.
Leaving School for Lunch
Students may leave school for lunch if they have parent permission and will be supervised by an adult over the lunch hour. We have had several instances of students forgetting they were going home for lunch or expecting to go home when this wasn’t the case. Because of these problems, we require written notification from the parent of any days a child will be leaving the building for lunch. Students leave for lunch through door 1. Students reenter the building through door 15. They should be supervised by a parent or adult until the 12:25 PM bell.
Students are welcome to bring their own lunches to school. These are stored in the classroom until lunchtime. We do not have facilities to refrigerate or heat lunches brought from home. Milk is available for $ .55. It can be purchased with cash or with a student lunch card, described below.
District 205 provides a daily hot lunch for purchase. The hot lunch costs $3.10. Students are provided with a swipe card that is used as a debit card. All students are issued a card on the first day of school. These are kept in the classroom for first grade students and in the lunchroom for other students. Let the school know if you do not want your child to have a card and it will be pulled. Your child’s district identification number serves as the lunch account number also.
Children order hot lunch in their classroom first thing in the morning. We require written permission to allow a child to purchase a second lunch. Payments can be made online at MySchoolBucks or by sending a check or cash to school. If sending payment to school, place it in a clearly marked envelope and include the student’s identification number. Checks should be made out to Elmhurst Food Services. You may use one check for multiple students if you indicate their names, identification numbers, and amounts to go to each account.
Please monitor your account. Lunches are not provided if a student account is overdrawn by $5.00 or more. It takes 24 hours for us to see payments made online, so please print and send a receipt of your deposit if necessary. Money may be moved from one sibling’s account to another by calling Food Service at 630-617-2467. They can address other questions about the hot lunch program as well.
