Dear Hawthorne Families,
I would like to thank the PTA and all of the volunteers who made the book fair a success. Even though space was limited, we still had plenty of books to choose from and families purchased a significant amount of books.
Morning Drop-off Routine
As the weather continues to get colder, more vehicles will utilize the car line. To keep the line moving, please make sure that your child is prepared to go straight to his or her door once they exit your vehicle. Once there is snow on the ground the line will take longer because people move slower. Please be patient and continue to follow the routine.
Students who are in fourth and fifth grade will be bringing their IAR reports home on Friday. While last year presented many challenges, we are proud to communicate that our reading scores were higher than they have even been. There was a 10% increase in proficiency compared to the last time we took the test. Our math proficiency level stayed the same. Click here to learn more information about your child’s IAR report.
Panorama Ed Survey
Students in Grades 3-12 recently took the Panorama Ed survey to guide the focus of District 205 in supporting social and emotional learning. Student responses to individual questions are not available; yet, families can opt-in to get a summary based on the question category with suggested next steps for each category. As a parent/guardian, if you would like to receive the summary results of your student(s), please complete this Google Form by Monday, December 13th and results will be provided to parents/guardians within the following weeks. Please note that this survey is not diagnostic, nor used for tiered interventions. Instead, this survey will support the identification of strengths and opportunities for growth for students across the District, schools, and classes.
Reminder to Families - COVID Vaccine Information
As more students get vaccinated we ask that you please be sure to share a copy of her/his vaccination card with our school nurse. This will help school personnel report the most accurate information to the DuPage County Health Department, avoiding unnecessary quarantines for students who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Onsite COVID Testing Available
As a service to our community, the District works with North Shore Clinical to provide voluntary onsite RT-PCR COVID testing for students and staff members. To enroll your child in weekly testing, click here. Once you have enrolled in weekly testing, we will send an email confirmation. For those interested in enrolling in our test-to-stay/ symptomatic testing, please complete the weekly testing consent form and then we will send you a confirmation email allowing you to opt-in to the test-to-stay/ symptomatic testing.
Important Information About COVID Symptoms
As the cooler weather months have set in, we have, unfortunately, seen an uptick in the number of students testing positive for COVID across the District. As we redouble our efforts to ensure that our students and school community are safe, we ask that you partner with us by monitoring your children for symptoms of COVID including the following:
- Fever (100.4°F or higher)
- New onset of moderate to severe headache
- Shortness of breath
- New cough
- Sore throat
- New loss of sense of taste or smell
- Fatigue from unknown cause
- Muscle or body aches from unknown cause
If your child or anyone in your household has any one of these symptoms, please take them to get tested and do not send them to school. Click here to locate a testing location near you.
