What is the Hawthorne Happening?

It’s Hawthorne’s biggest fundraiser that is a Halloween themed, carnival style event for students and their families.  It generates funds we need to support all of the assemblies, programs, school improvements and fun extras that the PTA sponsors for our children.

What’s included?

  • GAMES!  Students and siblings can play games in each first floor classroom and win prizes. There is also an inflatable Soccer Shoot Out and Bouncy House.
  • SPECIAL SHOW!  This year, there will be a Spooky Science Show. Steve Belliveau, magician and scientist extraordinaire, presents a show that captivates audiences. The aim of his show is to inspire and entertain all age levels while using dramatic demonstration, humor, music, audience participation and high energy. He will amaze you with magical, spooky science
  • DJ!  Plan on dancing the night away in your costumes.
  • COSTUME PARADE!  Kids can walk across the stage showing off their costumes several times throughout the night.
  • FOOD!  There is an allergy-free concession with pizza, chips, drinks and more so come hungry!
  • BOUNCE HOUSE!  Kids can jump for as long as they’d like.
  • PHOTO BACK DROP!  Remember this special night! Take pics with your friends in front of a zombie zoo-rific back drop.
  • RAFFLES!  Great raffle prizes  that range from ice cream with a teacher to highly sought after sports paraphernalia!
  • AUCTION BASKETS!  Spectacular items donated by Hawthorne families are available by silent auction.
  • BUY-IN PARTIES! These are fun, creative parties hosted by Hawthorne families that you pay to attend and all money raised goes directly to the Hawthorne PTA.
  • NEW! BOTTLE FLIPPING CONTEST!  For one $1 raffle ticket, each child will have a chance to see how many times they can land the bottle in 1 minute.
  • NEW! VIDEO GAME TRUCK (4TH AND 5TH GRADERS ONLY)!  Kids can play video games of their choice and/or watch their friends for 30 minutes at a time.

  • Only game participants need to purchase a wristband.
  • Included with a wristband purchase is unlimited classroom games with prizes, the Bouncy House, Interactive Inflatable and ONE turn on the Candy Wheel.

  • Unlike the wristbands, ALL ATTENDEES (students, siblings AND parents) MUST purchase Spooky Science Show tickets since seating is limited.
  • $4 each ($5 at the door). Tickets available on a first come first served basis through the PTA Webstore.

PURCHASE GAMING TRUCK TICKETS TODAY (4TH AND 5TH GRADERS ONLY)!

  • 20 slots available every 30 minutes.
  • 1 slot per student  for the entirety of the night.
  • $10 for 30 minutes of gaming. Tickets are available on a first come first served basis through the PTA Webstore.

  • Hawthorne students: Submit your entries for the COVER of the Hawthorne Happening Program to your teachers by Friday, September 22nd.
  • All grades are encouraged to participate.

2017-18 Hawthorne Happening Buy-In Parties On-Sale Now!

Payment is required to secure your participation in any of the Hawthorne Happening Buy-In Parties. Sale opens at 6 pm on Tuesday, October 3rd. Checks should be made out the the Hawthorne PTA. Please write the name of the party on the memo line of your check. Also please indicate the name of the participants. Checks can be dropped off or mailed to Anne Zimmer, 484 S. Washington Street, Elmhurst.

 

At the Hawthorne Happening, tickets for open events can be purchased by check, cash or credit card.

 

Wait List: Events can, and do, sell out quickly. Check the Hawthorne PTA website for updates. If an event is sold out, you can request to be added to the wait list. If a spot opens, you will be contacted by the PTA and payment will be due at that time.

 

Cancellation Policy: If you are unable to attend an event for which you purchased a tickets, no refunds will be issued. After all, it’s for the kids!


Kids Events:

5th Grader Lego Building Party

5th grade boys and girls will walk together after school for a Lego Building Party, plus snacks and drinks. Building materials will be supplied. There will be prizes for creativity and pictures of Lego creations will be sent home!

Outdoor Movie Night – Despicable Me 3 - SOLD OUT

Come watch the movie Despicable Me 3 under the stars! Popcorn, treats, and drinks will be included for the kids to enjoy. This is an optional drop-off event, so you can sneak away for a date night!

Splash into Summer Pool Party
All Hawthorne students are welcome to join us in celebrating another awesome year at Hawthorne and to kick off a spectacular summer break. This private party will be held at Smalley Pool and will include pizza, chips, drinks and treats. Smalley pool rules apply - notably children under age of 6 must have adult in water with them.

 

No charge for parents that wish to attend. Students and siblings that plan to attend will need a ticket. Students who will be in K through 2nd grade FALL 2018 will be required to have a responsible adult at the event supervising them. Children (students/siblings) ages 6 and under will be required to have a responsible adult in the water with them. Students who will be in 3rd through 6th grade FALL 2018 are allowed to be dropped off. Lifeguards will be on duty.

Dads Events:

Behind the Wall - Red Arrow Tap Room

The party will begin with a tour of the facility, including a peek behind the beer wall, as well as the technology the tap room uses to service its customers. After the brief tour, the group can congregate at the back of the tap room to socialize, enjoy some appetizers, and watch the Hawks take on the Sharks (7:30 pm start time).

Tannins Wine Tasting - NOTE NEW DATE

Come as a couple or bring friends to a relaxed wine tasting in downtown Elmhurst. Your hosts will be providing all flights and appetizers and have partnered with the owners of Tannins to provide a great selection for you to enjoy. Guests will also receive a 10% discount on any items purchased during the event.

Trolley Pub Crawl - SOLD OUT

Calling parents of ALL GRADES… Board the Party Trolley! Channel your College days and join your hosts on a crawl to their favorite local establishments via the Party Trolley!  Guests will meet at 6 pm at the Stratton residence to "prep" for the evening. Then at 7 pm the trolley will depart and heads to four local establishments including a couple of our favorite haunts in Villa Park. Trolley will drop the party off at the last bar (in Elmhurst) at approximately 11 pm for the evening to continue. Drink specials, light bites and road sodas will be provided. Great evening guaranteed for new families and veterans of Hawthorne!

Poker Run - SOLD OUT

A Poker Run in the Elmhurst neighborhood so iconic, no one ever thought to name it! Stretching from St. Charles Road on the North to the Prairie Path on the South and York Street to Spring Road, this is Elmhurst's first neighborhood. Participants will visit five checkpoints and will draw a playing card at each one while enjoying eats and signature drinks along the way. The object is to have the best poker hand at the end of the run… winning is purely a matter of chance and no skill is required!

Hawthorne's Amazing Race: Season 2 - SOLD OUT

See if your team has what it takes to complete a series of clues and fun challenges as you navigate your way through Elmhurst's bustling City Centre. Make your way through roadblocks, U-turns, and be sure to not get eliminated. The team that makes it to the final pit stop first will be crowned the victors. Once your team has completed all of the challenges, enjoy a celebration with all of the teams. The fastest time isn't all that matters, the team with the best spirit (theme/uniforms, etc.) will be rewarded as well.  Good luck, travel safe and GO! Join as couples, singles, or a complete team of six.

GaGa, Bey and Tay Dance Party

Always wanted to unleash your inner back up dancer? Sweat, laugh and get your groove on with the Fabulous Kristin Rozmus as we learn easy choreography and have fun letting loose on the dance floor. Dancers and novices are welcome to come and dance or watch the fun. Plenty of adult beverages, appetizers and desserts are included in this fun night out.
